Comments Off on Take Back the Reins
Take Back the Reins is an initiative set up by the British Equestrian Federation with an aim of getting lapsed riders back to enjoying the sport and hobby of horses.
Our next take back the reins course will commence on Tuesday 7th February at 7pm. Take back the Reins is a course we run in order to help those who have been out of the saddle for some time get back to it and take back those reins!!!
Our take back the reins are for riders who have had previous riding experience but who have taken some time out and are perhaps a bit rusty. Our previous courses have always been well attended and book up extremely fast. The courses have been the start of new friendships which has seen some of the riders embark on riding holidays with their new found confidence in the saddle.
Take back the rein has been proven to:
* create friendships
*increase confidence levels
*burn calories & increase aerobic capacity
*help with toning and strength
*build bonds between horse and rider
*increase knowledge and technical ability
If you would like to benefit from all of the above register your interest at reception.
The session will last an hour and will be discounted to £18 per session with FREE tea and coffee available afterwards. The course will run over ten weeks with the aim of riders either saying together as a group or progressing on to one of our other adult rides. Contact reception for more information.

Spring and Summer means our our horses and riders get to tackle our cross country course. We will be running regular group cross country lessons throughout the spring and summer once per month on a Saturday.
Our cross country course covers several acres of land which has a variety of fences which range in height and width. We have smaller more inviting fences for those just starting out with their cross country riding up to larger fences for our more advanced riders and exam clients. The sessions will work through the gears and their importance before progressing to working over a variety of fences before putting together a course and working on putting all the technical knowledge you have gained in to practice.
Our horses love to cross country school, and we have a range of horses suitable for all experiences of cross country riders.

Comments Off on Pony Club National Champs 16
Pony Club National Champs 16
On Tuesday 23rd August we took a team of four pony club members along with Cammy and Eddie to represent us at the Pony Club National Championships. It was a very early start for all involved to ensure the ponies were pampered and preened to perfection.
We set off in the horsebox at 6am to ensure we arrived at Chomondely Castle in good time. On arrival we unloaded Cammy and Eddie so that they could accustom themselves to their surroundings and relax before a thrilling day of competition.
First up in the dressage phase was Grace riding Cammy. Grace was as cool as a cucumber and rode the test with accuracy and feel and gained a fantastic mark. Cammy was totally un phased by the banners, cars, arenas and flags staying calm and relaxed throughout.
Jess then hopped on to Cammy and rode the same test. Jess gained the highest dressage score in her section with a near on hoof perfect test. The judges comments for both Jess and Cammy were fantastic!
Erin then represented us in the senior section riding our very own super cob Eddie. The dressage test was a more difficult one and Eddie was more forwards than normal! Another great score from the duo meant that we were doing great in the team competition.
Last up in the dressage phase was Paige riding Eddie. This was Paige’s first time at champs and she was feeling a little nervous. Again Paige rode a good test to receive some super feedback from the judges.
In the afternoon we had the show jumping. Jess and Grace both rode clear rounds on Cammy and demonstrated some rather stylish rounds. The girls were followed up with Erin and Paige riding Eddie who both unfortunately had a fence down.
In the afternoon we had the prize giving. After waiting around excitedly for a couple of hours we were thrilled with he results. Jess WON her section and gained the best new comer award, Grace was Fourth which for a 9 year old is absolutely fantastic. The team came overall 7th in the centre equitation and 5th in the tack and turnout phase.
Overall we had a wonderful experience. Our team of horses, staff and pony club children make our pony club one of the best. We are already excited for next year!! Roll on 2017.

Comments Off on Polocrosse training
We are pleased to announce further dates with our visiting Polocrosse coach Anna Kimber Tarbuck. Our Polocrosse sessions are split in to two hour sessions, with the first session aimed at our riders who are beginners in Polocrosse or improving on their basic skills. The second session is aimed at our more experienced Polocrosse players and is a much faster pace.
The game of Polocrosse teaches riders to work as part of a team. It involves great balance, throwing and catching techniques.
This is a great chance for our clients to have a go at Polocrosse. The session will teach you all the skills to catch, throw and handle your stick whilst on foot, before progressing to show casing your new skills on horseback!! Polocrosse is brilliant for those wanting a new challenge, to learn a new skill and to take part in a team game. Our visiting Polocrosse coach Anna is very friendly and accommodating and loves welcoming new players.
The pony club members who attended the last session found it great fun and are looking forward to our next session. Each session lasts 90 minutes and starts off with a warm up on foot, helping you to grasp the concept of throwing and catching the Polocrosse way. Once you have warmed up its time to mount and let the FUN really start! Riders will ride together and practise picking up, catching and throwing the ball in walk before progressing to the faster paces. Once this is mastered it’s time for a game!! Our riders will be split into teams of three, and will compete against each other to win the ball, this is great fun to be involved in whether you are riding or spectating! Be warned it gets noisy with all the cheering, and shouting for each other!! The session encourages team involvement, helps to cement relationships and gain new friends.
It is suitable for any rider who is able to control there pony in canter. We have strictly limited places, due to the nature of the session, so places will be given on a first come first serves basis. We require full payment at time of booking. Body protectors must be worn.
Our staff think this is so much fun we are sure our clients will! For more information or to book contact reception on 01606 89211 1

Riding & Road Safety Training & Exam
We have our third riding and road safety training & exam in the diary. Here at Cheshire Riding School we pride ourselves on the correct and effective training of all our riding and road safety students. In the past year riding and road safety has been at the forefront of the British Horse Society’s Dead Slow Campaign. The idea was to not only educate drivers but also riders on the correct way to ride and drive on the roads. The riding and road safety course is a great way to gain the education you require or to brush up on your riding and road safety skills.
As riders it is important to understand and know how to correctly and safely ride on the roads. Our training provides attendees with the knowledge and skills to ride more safely on the roads. All our training is carried out on site, starting in the classroom, progressing to practising your signalling and control of the horse on the simulated route, before tackling the roads. Our on site trainer Janet Lomax has been training riding and road safety for several years. During that time she has successfully trained over a hundred exam candidates and in 2015 had a 100% pass rate.
The riding and road safety exam is a pre requisite for the British Horse Society Stage Two exam. The exam needs to be taken and passed in good time to enable candidates to book their stage two exam.
All training will take place during the evenings from 6pm until 9pm. The training is to be booked and paid for in advance directly through Cheshire Riding School. The exam must be booked directly through the British Horse Society no later than four weeks before the exam. We strongly recommend booking early on to the exam, as we have a maximum number of twelve candidates and have been over subscribed on previous exams this year.
Our future training dates are:
Wednesday 7th September
Wednesday 14th September
Wednesday 21st September
Wednesday 28th September
The exam will be held on Wednesday 5th October during the day. To book www.bhs.org
